About the Artwork

The process begins with painstakingly choosing individual portions of slate with the required quality and texture needed to satisfactorily complete a piece of work.
Next, the chosen slate is carefully chipped and formed into the desired shape and size. This is often difficult due to the irregular breaking patterns inherent in slate.
Then, the fine artist goes to work creating anything from flowers, to Maryland blue crabs, seasonal images and individualized welcome signs are skillfully painted onto the slate.
Finally, a protective clear-coating is applied to the slate in order to prevent weathering and preserve its natural lustier.
